Schulz dismisses Greens’ proposal

In September four Green MEPs appealed to president Schulz to consider offering Strasbourg parliament building as a temporary shelter for refugees. They reminded that there is the necessary infrastructure in place and that the parliament could meanwhile convene in Brussels, as has been done before.

President Schulz told in his answer that he had given the proposal a careful consideration, but that in practice, it is unviable. He referred to financial costs, security requirements and the legal authorisation of the building for other than accomodation.
