CDM to respect human rights in climate actions

Two MEPs, Heidi and Jo Leinen (S&D) together with close to hundres organisations, networks, and citizens from 36 countries called the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) to implement UN obligations to respect human rights.

In an open letter send to the CDM executive board, they asked the CDM to adopt the recommendations of the UN framework for climate change (UNFCCC) to improve stakeholder consultation process in order to guarantee that the human rights are respected in climate action activities.

The CDM executive board confirmed having discussed the implementation of the UN human rights obligations and promised to work on improving the stakeholder consultation processes.
