National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP)

The office of Chairwoman Hautala met on 18 November with the National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP) from Pakistan, which was formed in 1985 by the Pakistan Catholic Bishops’ Conference, to discuss the human rights violations in Pakistan related to the blasphemy laws, minority rights, and religious freedom and the possible role European Union could have in promoting these rights. EU is committed to addressing most fundamental human rights concerns in Pakistan, especially the continuing application of death penalty, but it was agreed that specific attention should be paid to the rights of minorities.
