Brussels, October 7th 2009 Whereas French and British authorities are planning, in the coming days, the organisation of a charter flight via Bakou in Azerbaijan bound for Afghanistan, which should transport several dozens of afghan migrants, who were still present around the “Jungle” in Calais a few days ago:[:]
We, Member of the European Parliament, call upon the French and British authorities to renounce to any project of deportation towards Afghanistan. This charter must not leave, neither tomorrow nor later. Whereas Afghanistan is a warring nation, this is unacceptable to send back those who fled their country to seek protection in Europe.
This “joint charter” is contrary to the principles of collective deportations and non-refoulement. By putting seriously in danger the life of these refugees, France and UK do not comply with their international commitments as regard to Human rights.
We reaffirm the emergency to make effective the Asylum Right in Europe in order to allow every refugee to seek protection in the country of their own choice. Here and now, France can, and has to, suspend the application of the Dublin regulation in order to host and give the necessary protection to the persons who don’t have any other choice than fleeing conflicts zones and find refuge in Europe.

Alors que les autorités française et britannique prévoient, dans les jours à venir, l’organisation d’un vol-charter, transitant par Bakou en Azerbaïdjan et à destination de l’Afghanistan, qui devrait acheminer plusieurs dizaines de migrants Afghans, présents il y a encore quelques jours aux abords de la “Jungle” de Calais :
Nous, Parlementaires Européens, appelons instamment les autorités françaises et britanniques à renoncer à tout projet d’expulsion vers l’Afghanistan. Ce charter ne doit pas partir ni demain, ni plus tard. Alors que l’Afghanistan est un pays en guerre, il est inacceptable d’y renvoyer ceux qui s’en sont enfuis à la recherche d’une protection en Europe.
Ce « charter conjoint » est contraire aux principes d’interdiction des expulsions collectives et de non-refoulement. En mettant ainsi sérieusement en danger la vie de ces réfugiés, la France et la Grande-Bretagne violent leurs engagements internationaux en matière de droits de l’Homme.
Nous réaffirmons l’urgence de rendre effectif le droit d’asile en Europe afin de permettre à tout réfugié de solliciter une protection dans le pays de son choix. Dès à présent, la France peut, et doit, suspendre l’application du règlement de Dublin afin d’accueillir et apporter la protection nécessaire aux personnes qui n’ont pas d’autres choix que de fuir les conflits pour trouver refuge en Europe.
